Pennsylvania reports 977 measles cases across 39 counties
Pennsylvania reported 977 confirmed measles cases in 39 counties in 2026, while STAT says the outbreak’s full scope is unknown.

Pennsylvania has reported 977 confirmed measles cases across 39 counties so far in 2026, according to a statement from the state Department of Health cited by The Hill. Earlier reports by STAT and The Guardian gave a count of 943 cases. Those reports also said Pennsylvania had recorded its fifth measles-associated death.
The reported total may not capture all infections. STAT said only confirmed cases are counted and that the outbreak’s full scope is unknown. It reported that people in some Amish communities may not seek medical care unless illness becomes severe. The Guardian reported that Lancaster County had 381 cases when the state total was 943. Chester County officials told The Guardian they were preparing for cases to spread from Lancaster. The Guardian also reported that officials were conducting contact tracing and setting up community vaccination clinics.
